Preowned item from a smoke-free home. This was give to us as a wedding present from friends who are from Africa. The enclosed card that originally came with it said that it was a handmade African wedding basket from Zambia. They told us that it is a traditional wedding present in many areas of Africa - the brides can use it in every day life to gather grain, collect roots, for storage or to beautify their homes by hanging it on the wall. Zambian wedding baskets are beautifully made, durable and often passed along to generations of brides. There is a thin, clear loop of plastic strung through the back in order to hang it on a wall, which is where it has been in our house for years. Measures approximately 18" across on the front side and approximately 18.5" across on the back (difference in size due to the slight concave nature).
